WEEK 1: Foundations of Communication & Overcoming Fear
Session 1: Understanding Communication – The communication process (formal & informal) – Verbal vs. nonverbal communication – Building blocks of communication – Introduction to the 7 C’s of Communication
Session 2: Nonverbal Communication Skills – Types of nonverbal communication
(gestures, eye contact, posture, tone) – Cultural awareness in body language – Practice activities (mirror game, silent expression)
Session 3: Speech Anxiety & Stage Fright – Causes of speech anxiety – Techniques to manage stage fright – 1-minute impromptu speeches + individual feedback
WEEK 2: Presentation & Listening Skills
Session 4: Active Listening & Communication in Different Spheres – What is active listening? – Difference between academic, professional, and casual communication – Role-plays & listening activities
Session 5: Writing Formal & Informal Emails – Structure and tone – Dos and don’ts – Practice: Writing sample emails (peer review)
Session 6: Presentation Skills – Part 1 – Planning a presentation: purpose, audience, structure – Visual aid design (slides, props) – Presentation 1 + peer feedback
WEEK 3: Speech Crafting & Practice
Session 7: How to Write a Speech – Speech structure: Introduction, Body, Conclusion – Hooks and closings – Practice: Drafting a 2-minute speech
Session 8: Types of Speeches – Informative, persuasive, expository, and argumentative – Choosing the right type for your message – Group work: Classifying sample speeches
Session 9: Speech Delivery – Voice modulation, pacing, and emphasis – Rehearsing with gestures – Student speeches (recorded for self-review)
WEEK 4: Real-Time Application & Feedback
Session 10: Presentation Skills – Part 2 – Advanced techniques: storytelling, audience engagement – Presentation 2 (improved version) – Constructive peer and instructor feedback
Session 11: Persuasive & Expository Speeches – Practice delivering persuasive and expository speeches – Evaluation based on clarity, conviction, and delivery
Session 12: Group Debate & Final Assessment – Team-based debate on current issues – Assess: Communication effectiveness, rebuttal skills, teamwork – Final feedback + individual improvement plans
Deliverables & Assessment – Two presentations – One written formal and informal email
– One prepared speech – Group debate performance – Active class participation
